This month, as we celebrate the birthday of Rev. Dr. Patience Kisakye (August 8th), we reflect on her remarkable life and enduring legacy. Originally from Uganda, she began her journey with the Anglican Church, supporting evangelism and church planting. Her passion for service took her across continents, impacting countless lives.
Rev. Dr. Kisakye was an accomplished scholar, earning her Doctor of Ministry in Practical Theology from Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University in 2010. She also held a Master of Divinity from Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary, a Master of Arts in Religious Communication from United Theological Seminary, and a Diploma in Education focused on English Language and Literature, as well as African and European History.
Her professional career included roles as a Chaplain and Teacher at Busoga College Mwiri in Uganda, Chaplain at Bethany Methodist Home in the United States, and Associate Pastor at various United Methodist Churches. Beyond her pastoral duties, she was a passionate advocate for children, women, clergy benefits, and social justice issues.
In 2014, Rev. Dr. Kisakye brought her leadership, knowledge, and passion for children with special needs to Divine Hearts Foundation, joining its Directorship. She played a crucial role in supporting and enabling vulnerable children from Namunkanaga-Kigulu village to access education through our sponsorship program. She also began working on a concept to establish a 50-bed hospital in Namunkanaga-Kigulu village. Her dedication to community service included significant contributions to social change and leadership development initiatives.
Sadly, we lost Rev. Dr. Kisakye to cancer on December 9, 2021. However, her legacy lives on through the Rev. Dr. Patience Kisakye Scholarship Fund. This fund continues to support the education of vulnerable children, reflecting her lifelong commitment to empowering others through education and advocacy.
